This is another bed that we are calling our "Southwest Bed." I had found some larger rocks and after having placed then in this bed, it sort took on the appearance of a Southwest Garden. So we decide to try and plant it up with that theme in mind.

SWBed_02.jpg (61055 bytes) Since this picture was taken I have changed some of the rocks. But this picture gives you a good look at a bed before it is planted. The soil that I have used here is just sifted top soil that I buy 14 yards at a time from a materials dealer. As I plant I amend the soil with "Turkey Compost" that I buy from Fertile Gardens.
MonterreyBlueDalia_01.jpg (60439 bytes) The first plant we put in here was a "Monterrey Blue Dalia." This particular plant was in a darker corner of a wholesale greenhouse and was not doing very well. The back side had no green growth at all. This picture was taken right after we planted it. I will add a picture later as the plant comes back to health.
MonterreyBlueDalia_02.jpg (59665 bytes) This is a close up of the ends of one of the branches. At the end of each of the branches is a purple bloom. This plant should look terrific when it is restored to good health.

We next planted a group of three "Green Cloud Sage" around the other grouping of rocks.

For some additional color we planted a "Nanchez Crepe Myrtle" in one of the other corners. This is a larger variety of crepe and has a white bloom. On the left side of the picture you can see where I am starting a small flagstone area that there will be a bench later.

SW Cactus 1.jpg (59808 bytes)

We added some additional smaller rocks, planting some cactus in and around them. I plan on adding some additional flowering cactus here. The Coyote here is not real.

Here I after finished planting the bed. The picture is not very clear. The mulch that I used here really washes the picture's colors out. That and I need a new digital camera (coming soon).
